Not sure what you mean by 'compatible with'. AFAIK, X font
installation is unchanged for quite some time. So I don't think that
would/should be an issue per se. Configuration might be possibly be
an issue. And no, I don't know for sure there aren't some lurking
bugaboos re: 8.0 (not installed here yet). And I suspect there may
more likely be application level issues with some apps (I don't use
gnome, kde, or any office apps). So what tools are you using to check
this out? What does 'xlsfonts |grep -i arial' say?
