Hello Frank and others,

Aside from the fact that a Mini doesn't come with a monitor, what would a
Macbook Pro give me that a Mini won't? For example, would I run into problems
while converting MIDI tracks to audio and applying effects?

  Hello

The mini is not really a portable unit. It requires a display. It doesn't
have a current generation processor either. The 13 inch mac book pro is the
best portable option right now. As long as you aren't doing high channel
counts the 13 will be the best bang for the buck. Make sure you get it with 8
gb of memory and a ssd if you can afford it. It is a real game changer having
a solid state disk. You will still need a 7200 rpm external firewire drive
also. Your probably looking at $2000 us for the system and the external disk.
That's with the standard 2.3 ghz processor 8 gb of ram and the 128 gb ssd.

  Take care

    Hi all,
I hope to buy a Mac sometime before this year is over. After spending some
time with voiceover, as Kevin advised, I hope to buy Pro Tools.

About how much should I plan to spend? I would want something portable,
maybe the Mac Mini. Your opinion please.
