Hi:
Well, I have a Macbook pro with a 500gb ssd and 8gb ram, a quad core i7. It is around two years old now but still kicks. If I were to want to set it up for dual booting I would want more hard drive space. PT sessions and sample libraries eat up a lot of drive space and though I have plenty for use on the Mac side, I would really be stretching it to run windows and sonar as well. If you do want to set it up to dual boot you probably would want to get a regular mac like the mini or mac pro with a 1tb drive at least. Also, just as in Sonar, you really should use a second drive for audio. With the sdd it isn't quite as critical because of the lack of a head reading and writing but I rarely use it in a mission critical situation where I'm recording on a bunch of tracks at once. And I really wouldn't want to leave my macbook pro at my gig, it's too hot an item. I know that windows runs well on a mac, but for some reason I just want to keep the two worlds separated.

Subject: Which Mac, and specs?

Hi All, I'm a Mac virgin, and am about to get my first one with a view to learning ProTools, but I also want to use Boot Camp so that I can run Sonar under Windows to keep working on existing projects. I've been looking at the whole Mac range and should really appreciate some advice from those with knowledge and experience of the Mac world. I'm leaning towards a Mac Mini, with a 2.6 GHZ quad core processor, 16 GB RAM, and 1 TB fusion drive. Do you think this will be adequate, or should I be looking at the Mac Pro with its rather overwhelming customisation choices? Or are there other considerations which would make you choose MacBook Pro or iMac? Any comments or thoughts very much appreciated.
