If you were to get the 2010 or 2011 macbook pro, you could remove the optical 
drive and put a secondary hd in using a bracket from OWC called the Data 
Doubler. I did this last summer and it works great.

My main drive is a 120 gb ssd, and my secondary drive is a 750 gb 7200 rpm 
hybrid drive with 4 gb of flash.

With 8 gb of ram, I can pretty much do what I need to do with that machine. 
I've also got windows installed on the secondary drive, so I can mess with 
reaper and sonar under NVDA.

I'm running Pro Tools and Mainstage or logic at the same time, and not finding 
any problems of late. Hope this might help a bit.
