the presonus audio box is called an audio box 44. yes it requires an external power supply. There is a smaller one which does not require external power, but it only has two moc line preess. i did actually give the little one a go, as i was just doing some two track transferring. but it does not seem to have much head room. the 44 is quite good, i’m glad i went with it, as it has proved very useful since then. I use a focus right octopree to extend my studio set up and give me more mic line press. Not sure about using it as a stand alone interface, i’ve never tried. Someone else might be able to give you more information on this.
