Chris,
You don't have to disable the dashboard keyboard shortcut. The only 
ramification is that f12 will not engage the record mode in Pro Tools. Who 
cares? You have no less than 3 alternative methods for engaging record mode and 
I'm sure you don't need 4 methods. If you use the num pad, continue using the 
num pad or Command-Space or a control surface, whatever, and simply use f12 for 
the Dashboard. No biggie.
