Boss is owned by Roland, who were the makers of the mildly accessible VS series of recorders. I'd read the manual before committing to it though, as there may be some key combos to jump around the unit. I agree though, the laptop with portable interface is far more accessible, and the sky's the limit with your mixing and editing.
