As I'm sure many of you have read, it looks as if the City of Portland will find itself the owner of 600+ SkyPilots and an assortment of backhaul equipment, come April, when MetroFi's network will be forfeit based on Oregon law. Details here:
http://blog.oregonlive.com/siliconforest/2008/10/wifi_antennas_will_winter_in_o.html If you have an opinion about what Portland should do with the removed equipment, now would be a good time to write the City Commissioners and let them know what you think they should do. Since the council has been raked over the coals a bit for their involvement with MetroFi, they probably won't make a big fuss about the removal, but they should value the input of Portlanders, especially those with a keen interest in wireless networking. Contact the council here, especially Saltzman, as he is the commissioner whose office currently oversees Communications: http://www.portlandonline.com/index.cfm?c=28533#cid_25148 -- Michael Weinberg President Personal Telco Project, Inc.
