Hi all,

I'm pretty P/o right now because the one thing I was dreading the most just
happen and I thought I would let the group know that they should beware of
the following incorrect text below from the PTR manual. I just lost
absolutely all my voice notes and bookmarks which of course means I've
wasted an incredible amount of my freakin time indexing my books and other
material using PTR1's faulty bookmarks and such to then lose all this
information in an instant as a result of a plextalk firmware defect.

I was reading a book read onto my Toshiba card, and while rewinding, the
card became stuck. I listened to the PTR1's rewind mechanism and it made 0
noise telling me that the PC card was stuck. I heard the waiting tone for a
long time before finally deciding to simply turn the unit off by pulling the
battery out of it since it would not shut down in any other way. I turned
the p1 back on and the pc card was working fine and all my bookmarks were
intact. The problem now was that I was getting a prompt from the p1 telling
me that my daisy book on CD was not identifiable even though it was reading
before all this happened. I was also instructed to reset all settings. I did
this by going into the control panel per the manual's instructions below.
Everything seemed alright until I pressed the bookmarks button to check to
see if my bookmarks and notes were still there, but of course they weren't.
Damn! I knew this would happen, but as noted in

the text below from the manual, it stated all bookmarks and notes would be
alright, so I didn't think there was going to be a problem.

My point: 1. Most of us already know, but for the newcomers, absolutely do
not trust the plextalk manual. 2. again, Plextalk must create a manner by
which the user can backup their freakin bookmarks!!! Just as there have been
updates to the P1 within the last couple of years, there will more than
likely be more in the future. Does this mean users such as myself which need
to access information quickly must reread their entire bookshelf of books in
order to index and restructure and re-bookmark all their books? I just lost
all my personal notes and bookmarks for about 30 textbooks and personal
recordings. Why even bother allowing one to place bookmarks if they will be
completely useless every 6 months or year when Plextalk puts out a new
firmware revision.

10 USING OTHER PLEXTALK CAPABILITIES

This section covers a variety of other capabilities of the Plextalk Portable
Recorder.

 10.1 Clear All Settings

You can use the menu to clear all settings, and return the Plextalk Portable
Recorder to its default factory settings. Even if all the settings are
cleared, the bookmark information and the notepads remain intact.

Again, the text immediately above is BS, so don't trust any Plextalk
documentation if you value your data.
