Hmmm, are you proposing this as an alternative to, say, OpenID? Can you
elaborate on this a bit more?
I for one would be upset to see foaf+ssl promoted as a rival to OpenID.
The two approaches should play well in the same environment, I hope. For
example, logging into my OpenID provider with SSL certs...
