Issue #7616 has been updated by Luke Kanies.
Or just:
<pre>
case $operatingsystem {
CentOS:{ $step_tickers = '/etc/ntp/step-tickers' }
Debian:{ $step_tickers = undef }
}
if $step_tickers {
file { $step_tickers:
ensure => present,
content => '0.centos.pool.ntp.org'
}
}
</pre>
That being said, I can see how this is consistent with some other behaviors,
like undef parameters being left out.

I would like to declare undefined resources to do something like this:
<pre>
case $operatingsystem {
CentOS:{ $step_tickers = '/etc/ntp/step-tickers' }
Debian:{ $step_tickers = undef }
}
file { $step_tickers:
ensure => present,
content => '0.centos.pool.ntp.org'
}
</pre>
