legacy shims in the next major release, then include a deprecation

yeah I think a simple system that support symlinks to the single
executable which would then
check $0 would be a valuable addition

At this point we're just leaving the existing executables where they
are. It's essentially equivalent - they only have one line of code in
them.
So yeah, this shouldn't cause any breakage for anyone.
