Hey all,

I'm attempting to update my distro (been using 2.3.63). After having a mess
with miso, I thought it's time to take the plunge.

I have no Debian experience, so am floundering with install stuff.

1st of all

I have managed to install, via network, Lenny.

Using the online repository info, I am attempting to make Puredyne my
default distro

My 1st problem was with APTSettings and not having installed a desktop I was
at the command line prompt.

In have no idea how to make files and folders(apt.conf etc) from the command
line ('scuse my newbness)

So, I went back, reinstalled Debian and added the desktop option (which
doubled the install filesL)

Next problem

Cant login as root - so I can access and make files and folders (did I say
I'm not sure what I'm doin).

Managed to make a conf file by saving it on the desktop and copying it via
command line into the right place.

The root/.aptitude/config folder doesn't seem to have worked with this
method (dunno how to make folders)

Done the sources file - that seems to have worked, and the keys (Ithink)

When installing these '

aptitude update

aptitude install puredyne

Should they be running at the same time or do first line then enter.. then
second line etc? And if its more than 1 line at a time, how do I do that
too?

Anyways when I run this, a line at a time, i get

Xjadeo BROKEN

Then gets lots of errors with linux-image...

It then tells me that nothing is gonna be installed, and am I ok with this,
not really but I don't have a choice.

Also, I wanted to stay with the graffix appearance of puredyne. I have xfce
installed but it don't look the same.

Further, my boot disk whilst booting says...could not stat the resume device
file, please type in the full path name to try again or press enter to boot
the system.... So if I press enter, does that mean I aint got a boot disk?
As an aside, I have wondered for a while if virtual ram is a good idea on
Linux. When I used to run Macs, we never used virtual memory whilst running
audio apps, is it ok in Linux???

Phew, anyway, frustrating day, (been at it all day so far).

Guess I was kinda spoilt with the old distro, it just worked and I'm fairly
newb and defo lazy.

Big shout to all you peeps anywaze

Best,

Jbz

P.S. I am googling and searching for this info as well
