hmm, no. all of this is done through /etc/security/limits.conf nothing else. I'm sorry it doesn't work for you, but this is really all one needs to do. In case of doubt, I recommend restarting the computer (yes, I know it sounds foolish.. :)) just so pam definitely takes the changes into account. Also, make sure that you are part of the audio group!
