A good thing to do would be to check in launchpad and other bug trackers
if there are some issues with the current xorg driver for this card.



The problem is related to KMS (kernel modesetting) which is a new
thing getting enabled in recent kernels. The radeon drivers for those
cards dont support it well.  Passing radeon.modeset=0 on boot fixed my
weird graphics curruption. It doesnt seem to happen with the -generic
kernel though.

thanks antonios, where should i add that? i see that this should go in the kernel options at menu.lst but i am using GRUB2 and there is no such file anymore.
