Hello,
thanks antonios, where should i add that? i see that this should go
in the kernel options at menu.lst but i am using GRUB2 and there is
no such file anymore.
try editing /etc/default/grub
and add it to the line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash radeon.modeset=0"

then run update-grub as it says at the top of this file
my problems were with x31 and x24 so posibly yours too.

funny. i do that and then sleep works fine, although it takes its time to wake up, more than 30-40 secs. However Xfe fonts are now totally screwed up al the time. Also icons of open apps (Skype, QjackCtl ...) in the system try appear as empty squares with no icon. I attached a screenshot to the launchpad bugs
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/37492869/xfe_error.gif

I can also see that there is an error with the radeon.modeset=0 on startup, it says thats an unknown boot option. weird because it does have some effect in the system ...

(~) % dmesg | grep radeon
