I don't know if this would work for sure, or if it is what you're looking
for... but perhaps from the command line you could do this as root:

cat /dev/[scanner device] > /dev/dsp

similar to cat /dev/mem > /dev/dsp

all you'll get is noise, but it might do what you're looking for.
