Hello,

it seems that a large amount of people are interested in having Swikis in
different languages. So far, I know that Bert has a German version that
he'd be willing to integrate back into the mainstream release. There
appears to be a portuguese version out there. Someone said they'd be
interested in a French version. And, I'm sure a Spanish version is quite
feasible. Cool. I'm all for having several languages represented. Now,
is it possible to do this in an organized manner? Also, can I help to
make this possible with changing the standard (English) release. For
instance, one strategy that occurs to me is this:

Move all language-dependent stuff to the templates and the colorscheme
  directories.

These are easy to edit, considering that they are only HTML, GIFs, and
plain text with some other tags.

Create some meta-documents that explain what each template does and what
to watch out for when translating to a different language.

This is just one plan. If you have other suggestions, please post it to
the list.

Another question which worries me a bit is the quality of the translation.
I can understand German and Bert is quite a good Swiki hacker, so I think
the German version shouldn't be a big problem to get right. Anybody out
there willing to be a focal point for another language? Particularly, I'm
interested in having two people involved in any translation. Thus, their
understanding of the features will be better and the translation clearer.

Anything else that needs to be worried about. I'm particularly interested
in this when the release comes out. So, I need to make the necessary
technological changes asap.

Peace and Luck!
