I have just downloaded an iptables gui [firewall gui], and allowed all traffic from localhost (to localhost). No effect. I also checked whether my eth0 was working ok, which it was (however I'm using wlan). Something worth saying maybe: since python always uses localhost ports, it doesn't make any sense that just executing the script works, but debugging doesn't...
