By the way, I *did* get this to work with your suggestions, Rod (although it still seemed to depend on the order in which I drew things; but I suspect that it still my own ignorance). I've been temporarily pulled back into the Java world for work-related stuff but I look forward to getting back into the big comfy chair that is Python very soon and hacking more with pyglet.
