I don't know if I'd go with Webkit but Webkit was on the top of my head at the time of writing. The gist being that most ad agencies want to go with Javascript. It's hard to use Javascript in Python to render an ad. BuySellAds is one of the only companies I know which allows embedding of ads in desktop software. They say that it's required by their software to use a web rendering engine. Opening an additional program would be off-putting to the user (as it would be a pop-up). Embedding the ad directly into the window would allow the user to see the ad, click it to open another brower (if they chose) behind their already fullscreened game and then view the ad after they closed the game out. Just my opinion and I'm thinking of placing a Webkit window on top of the game window and closing it once the user clicks somewhere else. It doesn't allow the ad to be rendered directly into the game though. Another thing this would offer would be the ability to download game additions online.
