This is now (hopefully) fixed in my win32 binaries (pygtk-2.4.1-2)

Thanks for the effort, unfortunately after de-installing the older and 
installing the newer binaries, python still crashes! :-(
Did you apply the patch mentioned?
(I'm using Gtk 2.6.1 -- I don't know if that's part of the problem?)
