IMHO one factor to keep in mind is that your Ruby guy will be able to
pick up python no problem, but your volunteers may be less eager to pick
up Ruby. Ruby is a great language and RoR very powerful, but as far as
readability by less experienced programmers goes, it's much worse in
that regard. So maybe the decision comes down to how much of the work
will be done by your guy vs the volunteers...
