Only stable has security support anyway. The testing security team provides updates for testing, but offers no guarantees. Unstable doesn’t get security updates, security fixes tend to go in as they are fixed in new upstream versions. Experimental is experimental. :) So, you have to watch out for updates anyway if you follow non‐stable. Going the route of building the source then is minimal extra effort, and saves you from some of the problems of having a mixed install.
