It's not obvious to a newcomer how to contribute. There's a patches
tab, but no 'submit' option there, and the patches it lists are a year
old, so it's probably not in use. Source code? It's easy to view files
and commits, but there's nothing about making changes.


I think we, "insiders", all agree that we do need to provide some ways to ease the contribution process and that we need to do that as quickly as possible. The recent rant (http://lists.logilab.org/pipermail/python-projects/2012-August/003227.html) on this mailing-list made it pretty clear, if it wasn't already.

There is an explicit ticket for pylint :

with of course the underlying idea to widen this task to all our open source projects.

This will take a bit of time but we're very aware of this concern.
