Regarding the collada export issue, is pytonocc -> vrml ->
collada the way to go? Or is a direct collada export possible,
maybe planned for the future?
Depends on what you want. Collada is a game format, useless for
fabrication.
The industries platform of neutral data exchange is STEP, which lies
at the heart of pythonOCC
No, Collada is not a game format. It *can* be used for games, but I do
know people interested in a Collada<->STEP mapper for a use of Collada
in an industrial context for product data exchange and visualization.
It's getting also common in the digital content creation industry I
think, which of course includes gaming, but is not limited to it.
Lightwave3D for example, which I happen to use, switched their internal
file formats for objects and scenes to collada, for example...
Back to the issue: is the vrml export feature of pythonocc capable of
exporting a polygon mesh file with different materials, such that a
suitable converter could make a valid collada file out of it?
Thanks,
Simon
