This choice happened very early on during the PyX development in 2001
and it was rather deliberate. I only remember that I was not sure
whether we should set the linewidth to a non-default value at all...
Anyway, your argument sounds reasonable and also the fact that nobody
complained about PyX's default for a very long time shows that it cannot
be too wrong. And although I said that I'd prefer thicker lines, 1 pt
also seems too much for me.
So let's keep it as it is.
