But if I do the request below directly in Firefox I don't get an answer

It seems to me every second/third request gets no answer, the other requests are fast. Maybe one of the fcgi processes has a problem. If you kill all the processes with 'sudo apache2ctl -k restart', do you get the same behaviour with the newly started processes?

Marco

And some rule-based styled request in the web client are also fast... Strange.

Yes.

What do mean by "desktop is fast". Do you load the WMS layer into QGIS or the
original project file with the postgis layers?

yep, I meant QGIS desktop with postgis layer, just to make clear there is no
problem
with the styling.

Hi Stefan,

the WMS requests in my last posts are from firebug. Is that what you mean?

Hi Bernard

Did you have a look at Firebug (or the Google Chrome equivalent) to
see what
exactly the client is requesting?

Hi,

I realized that using a rule-based style makes the client dead slow.
Normally the log shows a timeout on the server for qgis_mapserv.fcgi.
If I put the rules into the data source (postgres) and use a
categorized style the client performs as expected. The slowliness
can only be experienced when zooming or panning.

I prepared an example (will be probably removed in a couple weeks):
http://map2.jena.de/kartenportal/test?format=image/png&visibleLay
er
s=
Stadtplan&lang=en

after loading please activate one of the layers and zoom in on
the colored area in the south rule-based style: loads forever
(Navigation history brings you back) categorized style: loads ok
Is it slow also in QGIS desktop app or is it something specific to
the QGIS server?
desktop is fast
and so is QGIS server; compare

both are reasonably fast

if I enter the WMS request directly both layers load reasonably fast!?
Then it is probably not a QGIS issue at all...?
I have no idea where the problem comes from because on my PC
(running OpenSUSE
11.4) both layers are fast in QGIS WebClient

In any case, sharing the project would help - to look for any anomalies.
what would you need? project and a dbdump? If you are willing to
look into this I would send it to you with a PM.
