I run:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/CHINA$ ./gdal_vrtmerge.py -separate -o tm2.vrt *.tif

and get:
./gdal_vrtmerge.py: line 1: !DOCTYPE: No such file or directory
./gdal_vrtmerge.py: line 2: PUBLIC: command not found
./gdal_vrtmerge.py: line 3: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'
./gdal_vrtmerge.py: line 3: ` "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd";>'

I'm using ubuntu hardy, have gdal and FWTools 2.0.6
(i.e. gdal_merge.py works fine)

Is there anything I have to do in order to install gdal_vrtmerge.py ?

Thanks

Agus

to produce layer stacks you can use gdal_merge.py, e.g.:
gdal_merge.py -v image.tif -separate blue.tif green.tif red.tif

I recommend gdal_vrtmerge.py [1]. It produces a "virtual raster" (vrt format) which can be loaded into QGIS. The vrt file is just few lines text, doesn't duplicate your input data, but apart from that it behaves pretty much like a multiband GeoTIFF.

Use it like:

gdal_vrtmerge.py -separate -o tm2.vrt *.tif

(Without -separate it will fail [2]).
