Thanks Bernhard, you're right, I forgot to pass this parameter in my
script. It solves the problem for my extension, but doesn't if you try
to simply use the dissolve tool (unless I'm missing something ?)

the processing toolbox. Other dissolve tools won't do, since I use this
tool for an extension I created (dissolve with stats), which calls the
qgis:dissolve algorithm from the processing toolbox.
I'm using QGIS 2.8.3 Wien. Does it mean I'm not using your patch

So, if you are using current master, you must set the dissolve field
for the layer. If you are using a stable version of QGIS (e.g. 2.10)
you must untick the checkbox "Dissolve all (do not use field)". I
recommend to use my patch because it is a lot faster than the old
algorithm.
