The files in my QL2K setup (laptop, WinXP Home) appear in directories, each with an index file "qlay.dir" which stores the file headers. The reference to these directory paths has to be set using the [WIN MDV] button during boot-up but once WIN1_, WIN2_ etc have been assigned and QL2K booted one can list files with "dir win1_" etc. and save and load as normal. An empty Win directory contains only a zero-byte "qlay.dir" file, and to that directory programs & files can then be saved. I suggest you refer your member to http://web.inter.nl.net/hcc/A.Jaw.Venema/ where the QLAYT tool may be found, which can be used to create these structures. It has a good manual which explains the process although the command-line is fiddly to use. Using this, however, I have set some twenty directories which are copies of my old QL floppy disks. From these I then copied files into more useful larger directories. Microdrive emulation is more complicated with a single hard-disk file containing a number of QL files. If the reference to these is not set during boot-up then a simple "dir" will fail with the familiar "not found" error. QLAYT can convert to and from these formats too. -- Regards, Stephen _______________________________________________ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm
