There are a lot of PC modules out there in various sizes and connector styles, which could be plugged onto a baseboard that does the wiring to the connectors at the QL case positions and holds the relatively small logic required for keyboard and MDV. However, from a QL hardware designer's point of view, there is nothing more boring and uncool than a PC :) For most electronic designers, including myself, dealing with connectors and mechanics is the unattractive portion of the job. I can not imagine doing this unattractive portion and then have no 68k hardware for the fun side of things. Let alone the obsolence problems that always go with depending on a specific piece of PC hardware.
