Note that TexTIDY will also convert to Wordstar (I know it is now obsolete) format preserving formatting. Some programs can still import Wordstar files. Another TexTIDY option is HTML output - I do not remember off-hand how good that option was in preserving formatting but it would preserve more than using simple text output.
