While I'm interested in the RaspberryPi I have very little knowledge of either Linux or the terminology used when it comes to this device and peripherals.

Would it be possible to explain briefly what they are, how they benefit the RPi and how they fit into the scheme of things? Also, what implications do they have for those in the QL community who'd like to make a miniature QL with it, for example?

I've read the three postings and think I get at least the gist of it, but would be helpful to have a simplified explanation, perhaps.
