If I remember correctly, the membrane can be trimmed (slightly) at the ends
where it plugs into the sockets on the motherboard.
Sometimes that fixes any problems.
If it is old, then it is quite possibly brittle and will give more problems.
I suspect the reason for the price of the membrane is due to the scarcity of
them - I believe that they are no longer produced, although there may well
be a 'proper' keyboard replacement you can get whic replaces the QL keyboard
& membrane with something a little more substantial.
Check out Tony Firshman's web site for a lot of useful information on QL
repairs, parts etc, ha's at http://www.firshman.demon.co.uk/
I can beat your 5.00 for a QL as I won a QL in a raffle at a QUANTA show in
Newcastle many years ago. I bought a single ticket for 50p.
Regards,
Norman
