Not absurd at all when I only have a _very_ few new ones left (8-(#
They were quite cheap when I had a lot.  That is the _real_ world...
Unfortunately secondhand membranes are no good.  The 'bit of paper' is 
plastic that becomes brittle with age, accelerated by the heat from the 
heatsink.
