Marketing :-) A combination of SMSQ/E ease of programming with the ease of use a desktop brings can be luring to the average user. How else can you explain the success of Windows? Additionally for example a desktop can be the personification (well not exactly the best term) of the OS to the user.. Across the board ease of use without a lot of typing is extremely helpful to many people... Drag and Drop, Icon filers etc. have their unique charm too... not to mention that I absolutely HATE having to type, wcopy win1_test____rext, win1_test2_____rext for example when I can mark them with the mouse and just drop em where I like... You'll tell me that this could be possible without a desktop too but hey... I prefer the desktop (and so are so many users of QPC2 out there that no matter what anyone says (including myself) got used to Windows... It's like the forbidden fruit, one bite and you're always an outcast :-) Don't get me wrong, shells are good really (and for tough tasks on the PeeCee I still got Start>Run>Command (or cmd whichever I am using at the time).... but honestly now do you have to? ALL the time? Why not click on your little Icon and do your job faster and easier... You can tire yourself typing programs instead of exhausting yourself trying to do a simple copy ... At least that's how I feel every time I am trying to copy one file in the QL .... Until I go to QD it's a nightmare :-) (I am lazy I know... but hey so are millions of people :-) -- Phoebus R.
