The advantage of them is that a person can come along at any time and
catch up fully. They can have private areas. Everyone can get all relevant
posts. They don't give rise to horrible amounts of spam.
The disadvantage is that they are clunky and run in one place.
Either way, that's what I have, and I don't want to run a news server.
They're too fiddly and open to abuse.
You can't please all of the people all of the time, etc...
