>Not so rare to find post going astray, or do you mean from US? It's the two country combo together with the markings (You should keep the USPS label of course) >Self adhesive as in lick and stick, or as in peel off and stick? Hmmmm sorry I used philatelic terms. Self-Adhesive is peel off and stick. > >The UKPS seems to be heading towards the latter, so there'd surely be some >value to the LAST of the former? > No there's absolutely NO value in the Peel Off variety. Note that ALL postal services in the world (even those of countries that are in torment, civil war or other upheaval of some sort) have regular lick and stick stamps with regular gum. The whole premise of philately is based on this. That's why you have mint never used, mint (no gum), and cancelled stamps. And that's why even in the US known for it's convenience measures, regular stamp (ie lick and stick) printing will never cease. The philatelic industry is one that usually provides postal services with a SIGNIFICANT amount of revenue... sometimes a 20 to 30% of their total revenue... and considering postal services don't actually have to provide service for these it's even more profitable. If I sparked your imagination, I could send you a copy of the Cyprus stamp catalogue of 2000 which I have double (I don't collect other things than Greece, Cyprus and all countries that have ANYTHING to do with Hellenic Territories (ie British stamps of Ionian Islands, or Austrian Levant, -or- foreign post offices in Greece (they existed in great numbers too at late 19th, beginning of 20th century). At least you can get a feeling for the whole story... (And to be back on topic, I have for the longest time longed to create a CD rom with the Greek Stamp Catalogue, which I started when I was still working at Vlastos Philatelic Centre (THE source for all rare Greek Stamps) but never finished... Maybe I will create one now based on W.U's SuQCess which has almost all the features I wanted (Try to do anything like that using Access and you're in for a surprise!)... With the Q40 and QPC colour capabilities i can even make the damn think Multimedia! <snip> > > >It's like anything IT, or leisure...cost in US: $29.95, cost in UK >35.95...and I thought the exchange rate was around 1=$1.40. As I suspect for the longest time, prices in the UK are a joke... You guys must make a TRAINLOAD of money if you can afford (at least in our field) the prices I see. I always wondered how Greek students could afford life in London or other notable university centres around the UK.... I could never find out as everyone that studied in the UK and I know personally were anyways loaded! When I was looking to finally get into a University I looked into the UK because of the Great schools you have but there was nothing in my reach (Although a EU citizen due to age I didn't qualify for "free" education) so the US although farther away from home was an obvious choice (in Greece I couldn't even consider at my age to go to a university... I would be the laughing stock of the department :-)-Not to mention that the schools are DAMN HARD to get into and even harder to finish.... At least now I am getting a half-decent (to borrow a common US term) education which for some reason - totally unknown- to me is highly regarded back home (Of course I won't tell them that half of my studies are concentrated around "very important" areas such as: middle-school level geography, elementary school algebra or high-school level biology (I wonder what cytosis has to do with Information Technology :-), but that's another -painful at least where it counts; in the pocket- story :-) ) > > ...I'll have to ask mum to ask the > >>recipient to carefully open the envelope and return it to me. As long as you keep the sticker and original USPS cancellations.... > > > > You should... in any case is one of the weird things worth keeping! > > >I pick her up tomorrow eve at LHR. I'll mention it then (if I remember) > All the best, Phoebus
