Tony Firshman makes some magical things to make me read

} I found I could program successfully for the Q40 very few of the
} recovered eproms Peter Graf sent me - mainly ST.

} about 100. Omnipro found nothing particularly wrong with the
} programmer. It certainly had always been programming the eproms
} successfully - it was just that the eproms did not work in the Q40.

Looking for some 'replacement' of 27C4096 (not available at my shop),
(because we are already 5K near the limit of the 27C1024...)
I was suggested a 27C042. while performing some research on the internet,
I found that the timing of various Eprom might vary from a manufacturer to
another (there is even a manufacturer which sells the same model with various
timing. one is name 27C....-100 and the other 27C....-150).

The mapping of a 27C042 looked fine, but if I have to worry about
the timing, I better check twice and only get a single pair first.
(excepted my programmer does not seems to list the 27C042, which also
mean investigating adding it, if possible, manually... that's another
private problem).

Do we have any hardware specification/documentation for the eprom on the Q40 ?
(including bus access and signals)

}
} I then bought some brand new eproms - ST again I think - and all worked.
}
} Try programming a known workable SMSQ/E (2.91) before embarking on the
} new one to make sure the eproms are OK.

Done that (copy the original 2.91 on new eprom set). Works fine.
(I should close the window with a sticker, but I lack the sticker...)
Look's like I'm on the lucky side so far, because my new eprom are all from ST.

I really believe I'm stuck at the SMSQ/E code level so far. And I haven't a clue about
what to do...
