Hi Malte,

the problem with the maps on DVD is their format. The "official" DVDs are
products of the well known company EADS and the format is their proprietary
format. EADS is very greedy and wants to have royalties from everyone
supporting their format. The amount requested seems to be quite high. That is
why QuoVadis? for example dropped the support for the maps.

Don't ask me why German authorities sell maps, payed by taxes, to the people,
that paid the tax, in a proprietary format of a company that tries to benefit
from that trade in every aspect. As a matter of fact EADS threatens to sew
everyone who publishes a converter for their format.

There is only one tool known to me that can convert the maps. And that is
GlobalMapper. I never tried it, but it is told to be able to convert these maps
into GeoTiff.

Oliver
