Hello, I faced a similar issue at the time Switzerland did not offer (open) raster maps at a reasonable price.
If you're willing to spend a day or two doing the same monkey work I did to create software-independent/offline versions of swiss topo maps, then you want to look into: 1. going through the areas of interest on your DVD, using a 1:1 pixel ratio and preferably a high-resolution screen, and make screen captures 2. cropping and assembling each captured tiles using sensible marks (e.g. the geo-reference grid) and your preferred image processing software (preferably using a RAM beefed-up PC) 3. geo-referencing the resulting files using the ad-hoc GDAL utility (gdal_translate); if the reference and transformation system used by german/EADS maps is standard enough (iow. its has an EPSG entry in GDAL/PROJ.4 database), this step is straight-forward. Again, its boring silly monkey work, but at the end, you do have your charts in GeoTiff format, usable in any decent GIS utility (like QLGT). Topographic maps aren't subjected to change (significantly) very often, so it may worth the hours spent. Let me know if you're going for it. I can post detailed instructions for point 3. (taken from a manual I wrote on that subject). Cédric On 28/09/12 11:25, Malte Zacharias wrote: > Hi Oliver, > >> the problem with the maps on DVD is their format.
