That is interesting, because that should not work ;-)

Well, actually, it should not work if the "MODE" (= permissions) is
"0660", as that means read and write access for the owner and the
group, so the group must be set too. But if you entered "0666" (read
and write access for anybody), then indeed it does not matter if the
USB port is owned by the same group that the user belongs to.
