Even if I have no clue about C++ I managed to add the 
"-co bigtiff=IF_SAFER" to the gda_translate and gdalwarp commands in my
local copy of "CMapQMAPExport.cpp".
I by the way added as well "--config GDAL_CACHEMAX 500 -wm 500" as an
argument to the gdalwarp command. I at least have the impression this
speeds up the process on my computer quite well. 

So I have a working solution now for my problem to properly define the
boundaries directly out of QLGT.
