Hi Michael,

I would say the major difference you might miss in QMapShack is:

1) Routing. There is next to no routing support.
2) WMS maps. You can warp a GDAL WMS definition file by a VRT file. But
that is not the same performance as used by QLGT
  (http://www.gdal.org/frmt_wms.html)
3) No import of qmb files.

I hope the database import works flawlessly. So far I couldn't find any
problem with my own database. But some details might have slipped my
attention. After all I am just human.

You will have to convert your Garmin maps into single file gmapsupp
files as used on the devices. You have to wrap raster maps by VRT files.
If you use raster maps with multiple resolution you will find QMapShack
a bit more complicated, as each layer is a map on it's own now and you
have to fine tune the visibility. On the other hand side I recommend to
only use the most detailed map and replace the other ones by vector or
online maps. That's what I did.

It's always good practice to make a backup of our data and I would use
both programs in parallel for a while. You never know. Maybe QMapShack
sucks. (no you probably will love it, but who knows).

HTH
