Thank you for your explanation of the potential complications of compiling and using Appimages.
I passing, I am using Mageia 5, which is getting a bit old, pending Mageia 6. I have tried a number of Appimages to access later version than available from the Mageia repositories, including Arduino, AVIdemux, OpenShot, Scribus, and VLC. Fortunately, they have all worked without apparentproblems.
