I just had to do this, and ended up using the SSL-patched tcpserver
instead of the qmail-ldap TLS support.

You can use ucspi-ssl package instead of patched uscpi-tcp for POP3/SMTP(and any other TCP services) over SSL.

We have used this for last two weeks and that works fine :-).

We need both SMTP over SSL and STARTTLS because MS Outlook (Express) supports only SMTP over SSL but Mozilla Mailer(such as Thunderbird) does only STARTLS... So we use qmail-smtpd with STARTTLS and ucspi-ssl.

BTW if you know some MUA except Mozilla Mailer which can use STARTTLS for SMTP, please let me.

Thanks.

Opera's M2 supports STARTTLS over SMTP, POP, and IMAP.
