I'm not, my users start the discussion and I have to finish it.

Anyhow, I was not complaining, it was a legitimate question.  In fact
just today I changed our site to do plain SMTP+TLS on port 465,
becasue SSL was giving us so much trouble with dropped connections.

I never suggested that.  MUAs, however, can deliver to any port using
TLS.

Because people want it?

I'm not arguing about the superiority of TLS over SSL here, only
noting Gnus and Mozilla features.
