IMAP is great for mobile users. They can access their email from
anywhere. POP3 should be used when you only check your email from one
computer. SquirrelMail is a Web based IMAP client. Sqwebmail is a web
based POP3 client. So if you're looking to use a web POP3 mail client
Sqwebmail is it. But anything that is web based needs to run on the
server, therefore whether you use IMAP or POP3 makes no difference.
It's only when you use a local mail client like Outlook or Netscape that
you are saving bandwidth, cpu cycles and disk space(only after your
clients have downloaded their mail).

Subject: [qmailadmin] Why support imap?

It seems that the qmail, vpopmail, qmailadmin people tend to recommend
squirrelmail and sqwebmail. However, these are both imap clients. Our
initial reaction is to prefer (in order to save bandwidth, cpu cycles
and
disk space) pop3 and have users keep their mail folders on their local
PC's. Why do you all like the imap web email clients? Are there any pop3

only web email clients that you guys would recommend?

Best Regards,
