Hi, > Unemerged, tried again, etc... Still nothing. Is there something I'm > missing. I have googled everywhere and find no solution for this matter.
For this kind of installations (qmail/vpopmail/etc), installing from packages is discouraged, because: a) You don't control where the system puts certain files b) Due to a) you can't diagnose some problems c) Due to a) the general help rules for source-installed packages aren't valid d) You don't know actually what the installation does. And I hate a command doing things I don't know. e) In this kind of lists you'll find help generally only for source-installed software, and not for specific distro and its packages problems. I've installed dozens and dozens os qmail/vpopmail systems from source code *always* in Debian and SuSe boxes and never had that error. In fact, for this kind of servers, the only thing I install from packages is apache. If you found no help google'ing is, probable, due to the fact that such an strange error is only caused in your case (or almost only) by Gentoo's package in your system. It's not the 1st time I read about problems with vpopmail and Gentoo's packages. Install from source code. Maybe you'll be able to fix your problem doing this thing or that thing but you'll learn nothing from it. When you do it once and once and once again, you end knowing very well how's the mail system built, where every file is, how every file must look (owners, permissions) and, the most important: how to fix things. When you install this kind of things from packages... Ruben
